Chicago Fire forward Jason Shokalook has been traded to Real Salt Lake.
Fire receive $150,000 of General Allocation Money from RSL, plus up to $50,000 of additional GAM if performance-based incentives are met, MIR97 Media understands. The Athletic reported the trade this morning.
Shokalook, who was a SuperDraft pick in 2o23 and signed with Chicago Fire II ahead of the 2024 season, has spent two-and-a-half years at the club. The now-23-year-old was promoted to the first team ahead of this year but was only used sparingly.
An exit close to the deadline comes as no surprise. Shokalook has barely played this season and only appeared for two minutes against Inter Miami in his lone cameo since the World Cup break. The Fire have already secured the signing of versatile forward Johan Gómez, who can take on the role of the team's nominal backup to Robert Lewandowski.
Shokalook spent most of his time in Chicago playing for the second team in MLS Next Pro. After a quiet 2024 where he sat on the bench behind David Poreba for the entire season, he broke out at the reserve team level in 2025, winning the Golden Boot. His 21 total goals in Next Pro earned him a first team contract.
This season, totally just 40 MLS minutes in nine substitute appearances and has been largely a non-factor. However, in his limited appearances for the second team, Shokalook scored seven goals in six games and is Fire II's top goalscorer this season.
Real Salt Lake are in a substantially weaker spot than the Fire this season, and currently sit 10th in the Western Conference without any real title ambitions. Shokalook will compete for rotational minutes there behind an in-form Sergi Solans, who recently enjoyed a run of five goals in five starts for RSL, even though the team is winless since the Leagues Cup first round.
