The Chicago Fire enter MLS Decision Day knowing they will face Charlotte FC in the first round of the playoffs. Home field advantage is still up for grabs: with a win over the Columbus Crew on Saturday, the Fire would secure 4th place and host games one and three of the series.
But is a Decision Day win automatically the best outcome? Not necessarily, depending on how you want to look at it.
With eight simultaneous games and all 15 East teams in action early Saturday afternoon, plenty of scenarios could develop over 90 minutes. For the Fire specifically, not a ton will change. They and Charlotte are locked into finishing 4th or 5th. If the Fire beat Columbus, or Charlotte fail to beat Miami, the Fire will secure 4th and home field advantage for the first round.
