It was certainly a disappointing night for the Fire as the team dropped all 3 points after conceding yet another lead this season. Despite giving up two goals in the second half, however, center-back Rafa Czichos still played a very solid match.
The German center-back won over half of his attempted duels and completed nearly 90% of his passes against Charlotte. In his first start back from injury, the big German defender did well in leading his team from the back.
Although Charlotte nearly had double the amount of possession that Chicago did tonight, Czichos and the rest of the backline did well in preventing the hosts from creating any great scoring opportunities and kept the home team’s expected goals to just 0.55 (which was less than half of the Fire’s 1.28).
Despite the loss, the Fire’s captain did well in keeping things tight at the back and was truly unlucky to concede twice in the second half. Not only is it great to see Czichos back in the team after being out injured, but to see him performing well right away is amazing.
